Innovate achieve Food for Life Bronze Award Status
The criteria of the award is based around seasonality, provenance and healthy eating, along with having an ethical and sustainable supply chain and values. Another major part of this is how we interact and communicate with our students and work closely with our schools through our marketing and student council meetings.
This also now opens up more possibilities for Innovate in attaining new business, as Food for Life is fast becoming a key part of the tender process with many schools and consultants. We are also working towards Silver level and hope to have this completed by the end of summer.
We now have the ability to work with individual schools on attaining their own Food for Life awards, and more and more schools are showing interest due to the increased profile that it gives to them and Innovate within their catering operations and curriculum.
David (Auditor) from the Soil Association quoted after the inspection “I’m pleasantly surprised to see an education caterer that can drive uptake to this extent, and still stay true to our principles at its core. This, along with the commitment to working with the schools and student bodies looks like a winning formula”.
I would personally like to thank Wayne and Sue and their teams, from Ridgeway and Newton Abbot, the first two schools to lead the initiative for their hard work and patience through the process, and the rigorous 2 days of auditing they endured!
